Overview

Alnus incana subsp. rugosa pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the speckled alder tree, a species native to North America. [2] It is a biologic product used for both the diagnosis of allergies (via skin testing) and for allergen immunotherapy to treat patients with confirmed allergies to this specific pollen. [11] The therapy works by administering controlled, gradually increasing doses of the allergen subcutaneously, which modulates the immune system over time to reduce allergic sensitivity and induce tolerance. [10, 11] The product is available as an injectable solution or suspension and is marketed by companies including ALK-Abello, Inc. and Center Laboratories. [3, 4] It is an FDA-registered product that requires careful dose titration based on individual patient sensitivity. [4, 15]
