Overview

Aloe vera fermentation is a botanical preparation produced by the fermentation of *Aloe vera* (Aloe barbadensis Miller) gel using probiotic microorganisms, such as lactic acid bacteria. This fermentation process is designed to enhance the therapeutic properties of aloe vera by increasing the bioavailability of its constituent polysaccharides, such as acemannan, and generating bioactive postbiotic metabolites. It is primarily investigated for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and wound-healing properties. Specifically, researchers at the Hospital of Stomatology Affiliated to Nanchang University have evaluated its efficacy as a topical treatment for recurrent oral ulceration (canker sores), where it is thought to promote mucosal repair and modulate the oral microbial community to prevent recurrence.
