Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aloe vera gel + hyaluronate (also known as AV/HA) is a preservative-free ophthalmic combination product used as an adjunctive treatment for glaucoma therapy-related ocular surface disease (GTOSD). It consists of aloe vera gel extract and 0.3% sodium hyaluronate. The formulation works as a lubricant by forming a protective layer over the eye's surface, while the aloe vera component provides anti-inflammatory effects by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Clinical studies have indicated that these eyedrops improve signs and symptoms of GTOSD, including increasing tear break-up time and reducing ocular surface disease index (OSDI) scores.
