Overview
Aloe vera gel + urea cream is a topical combination product used primarily for dermatological conditions involving dry, rough, or hyperkeratotic skin. Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) provides anti-inflammatory and soothing effects on irritated or inflamed skin due to its content of compounds like acemannan. Urea acts as a keratolytic agent and humectant; it softens the stratum corneum by dissolving intercellular matrix components (keratin), promoting exfoliation of dead skin cells and increasing hydration by attracting water into the outer layer of the skin. This combination is used to treat conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, xerosis, ichthyosis, dermatitis, corns/calluses, and hand-foot syndrome (HFS) associated with chemotherapy. Clinical studies have shown that combining aloe vera gel with 10% urea cream can reduce the severity of HFS in patients receiving capecitabine compared to urea alone[2][9]. The product should not be applied to open wounds or broken skin due to potential irritation[5].
