Overview

**Alogliptin + empagliflozin** is an oral fixed-dose combination of two antidiabetic agents: *alogliptin*, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and *empagliflozin*, a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. Alogliptin works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, prolonging the activity of incretin hormones, thereby increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. Empagliflozin acts by selectively inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, which reduces reabsorption of filtered glucose and increases its urinary excretion, leading to lower blood glucose levels. This combination is aimed at improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, leveraging the complementary mechanisms of both agents to optimize efficacy while minimizing the risk of hypoglycemia[2][3][4][6].
