Overview

Alogliptin + insulin refers to the combination therapy of alogliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, with exogenous insulin for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Alogliptin works by selectively inhibiting DPP-4, an enzyme that degrades incretin hormones such as glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). This inhibition increases active incretin levels, which in turn stimulate glucose-dependent secretion of insulin from pancreatic beta cells and suppress glucagon secretion from alpha cells[3][4]. Insulin is a hormone administered to supplement or replace endogenous production in patients whose bodies do not produce enough or cannot use it effectively. The combination is used when monotherapy does not achieve adequate glycemic control and can be part of a broader regimen including diet and exercise[5]. Alogliptin is approved for use as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents, including insulin[5].
