Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alothide A is a fixed-dose combination of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) aceclofenac and the muscle relaxant thiocolchicoside. Developed and marketed by Alodia Life Sciences, this combination is indicated for the treatment of painful muscle spasms associated with various musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, including arthritis, bursitis, ligament sprains, fractures, and bone or spinal deformities. Aceclofenac acts as a preferential inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby blocking the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins to alleviate pain and swelling. Thiocolchicoside, a semi-synthetic derivative of colchicoside, acts as a competitive antagonist at GABA-A receptors and an agonist at glycine receptors in the central nervous system, promoting inhibitory motor pathways to relieve muscle stiffness and spasms without causing significant sedation.
