Aloxiprin, also known as aluminium acetylsalicylate, is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders. It is a chemical compound formed from aluminium hydroxide and aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). Aloxiprin acts as an anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic, and antiplatelet agent. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) enzymes, leading to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxanes—key mediators in inflammation and pain pathways. This results in decreased inflammation, fever reduction, pain relief, and inhibition of platelet aggregation[1][3][6][8]. Aloxiprin may be preferred over aspirin alone due to potentially improved gastrointestinal tolerability.
