Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alpha ointment is a topical formulation investigated for the prevention and treatment of acute skin complications, such as dermatitis, pain, and burning, associated with radiotherapy in breast cancer patients. Clinical trials have shown it to be more effective than hydrocortisone 1% ointment in relieving pain and burning and preventing complications, with the exception of itching. It is suggested that alpha ointment, either alone or in combination with hydrocortisone 1%, could be a beneficial strategy to mitigate radiotherapy-induced skin injuries.
