Overview
Alpha-cyclodextrin is a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of six α-(1→4) linked D-glucopyranose units. It is produced from starch by enzymatic conversion and belongs to the class of organic compounds known as oligosaccharides. Alpha-cyclodextrin acts primarily as a soluble dietary fiber with the ability to bind dietary fats in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing their absorption. This mechanism can contribute to weight loss and improved metabolic parameters such as glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. It has also been investigated for its use as an excipient in pharmaceutical formulations to enhance drug solubility and bioavailability[1][2][3][4][5][6].
