Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate is a phosphorylated sugar molecule and a key intermediate in carbohydrate metabolism. It is used experimentally as a component of total parenteral nutrition and for phosphate replacement therapy to correct low phosphate levels in the blood. Mechanistically, it acts as an inhibitor of glycogen phosphorylase (muscle form), thereby influencing glycogen metabolism. Alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate is not approved for pharmaceutical use but has been studied in experimental settings.
