Overview

**Alpha Ject** is a brand name for a range of oil-adjuvanted, inactivated injectable vaccines developed by PHARMAQ (acquired by Zoetis in 2015) primarily for farmed Atlantic salmon (*Salmo salar*). These veterinary products contain formaldehyde-inactivated cultures of bacterial and/or viral pathogens, such as *Aeromonas salmonicida* (furunculosis), *Listonella anguillarum* serotypes O1/O2a (vibriosis), and others depending on the specific formulation (e.g., infectious pancreatic necrosis virus in Alpha Ject micro 6). Administered intraperitoneally at 0.1 ml per fish (minimum 15g body weight), they reduce mortality, lesions, and impaired growth from targeted diseases, with onset of immunity around 450 degree days post-vaccination. The mineral oil adjuvant enhances immunogenicity but poses risks like allergic reactions or vasospasm if accidentally injected in humans.[1][2][3][5][14]
