Alpha Ject LiVac SRS is a live attenuated vaccine developed for the aquaculture industry to protect salmonid fish against Salmonid Rickettsial Septicaemia (SRS), also known as Piscirickettsiosis. The vaccine contains a modified, non-pathogenic strain of the intracellular bacterium *Piscirickettsia salmonis*. Developed by PHARMAQ (a subsidiary of Zoetis), it is designed to stimulate a robust and long-lasting immune response in Atlantic salmon, Coho salmon, and rainbow trout. It represents a significant technological shift from traditional inactivated whole-cell bacterin vaccines, offering improved efficacy in reducing mortalities in the Chilean salmon farming industry, where SRS is the most economically damaging disease. The vaccine is administered via injection and its performance is known to be temperature-dependent during the immunization period.
