Alpha-keto-isoleucine is a keto acid analog of the essential amino acid isoleucine, chemically known as calcium 3-methyl-2-oxopentanoate. It is used primarily as a nutritional supplement in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly to help delay progression and reduce nitrogenous waste in patients on low-protein diets.
