Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SEPTASTERIL DS is a pharmaceutical combination of alpha-ketoanalogues and essential amino acids developed by Septalyst Lifesciences for the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). It is specifically indicated for patients with a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) between 5 and 15 mL/min to treat and prevent protein metabolism disorders. The formulation works by providing nitrogen-free analogues of essential amino acids that undergo transamination in the body, utilizing nitrogen from non-essential amino acids to form the corresponding essential amino acids. This process effectively reduces the production of urea and other nitrogenous waste products, allowing patients to maintain nutritional status while adhering to a low-protein diet, thereby slowing the progression of renal failure.
