Alpha-linolenic acid-enriched diacylglycerol (ALA-DAG) is a functional lipid ingredient in which the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is esterified predominantly to 1,3-diacyl-sn-glycerol. It differs structurally and metabolically from conventional triacylglycerols (TAGs). Clinical studies have shown that dietary intake of ALA-DAG increases fat oxidation and reduces visceral fat area and body mass index compared to ALA-TAG in overweight or obese individuals. The mechanism involves enhanced β-oxidation activity in the small intestine and liver, leading to improved lipid metabolism. No significant adverse effects or developmental toxicity were observed at high doses in animal studies. The compound has been investigated primarily as a food ingredient for weight management and metabolic health[1][3][6][7].
