Overview
**Alpha-lipoic acid-loaded folate-conjugated chitosan nanoparticles** are an investigational nanoparticle drug-delivery formulation developed for neuroprotection in Parkinson's disease models. The formulation encapsulates the antioxidant small molecule alpha-lipoic acid in chitosan nanoparticles surface-conjugated with folic acid, intended to enhance cellular delivery through folate-receptor-associated uptake. In an in vitro 6-hydroxydopamine-induced SH-SY5Y Parkinson's disease model, the formulation reduced oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling, and apoptosis, with greater protective activity than free alpha-lipoic acid.
