Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An alpha-synuclein antibody is a type of targeted immunotherapy designed to bind to alpha-synuclein, a presynaptic neuronal protein that misfolds and aggregates into toxic fibrils (forming Lewy bodies) in synucleinopathies such as Parkinson's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy. These monoclonal antibodies aim to inhibit the cell-to-cell propagation of pathological alpha-synuclein, reduce neurotoxicity, and promote the clearance of extracellular aggregates by microglia. Several clinical-stage candidates in this class, including prasinezumab and amlenetug, have been evaluated for disease-modifying effects in neurodegenerative disorders.
