Natural source d-α-tocopheryl acetate is a specific, naturally derived form of Vitamin E (RRR-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) that functions as a potent antioxidant and immune modulator. Developed and studied by Vanderbilt University, it has been investigated for the treatment of mild allergic (atopic) asthma. The compound acts by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby reducing oxidative stress markers like F2-isoprostanes in the airway. Furthermore, it modulates the inflammatory milieu by inhibiting Th2 cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-5 while promoting the production of the Th1-associated cytokine IL-12. Clinical evidence suggests that high-dose oral supplementation (1,500 IU) can reduce allergen-induced airway inflammation and improve airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine.
