Overview

Alpha-tocopheryl phosphate (TP) is a phosphorylated derivative of alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E) that occurs naturally in biological tissues and plasma. Unlike its non-phosphorylated counterpart, TP acts as a potent signaling molecule rather than just a lipid-soluble antioxidant. It has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation in smooth muscle cells and monocytes, modulate the expression of genes involved in lipid uptake such as CD36, and inhibit protein kinase C (PKC) activity. Developed primarily by Phosphagenics (now part of Starpharma's legacy portfolio), it is often utilized in a proprietary mixture known as TPM (Tocopheryl Phosphate Mixture) to enhance the solubility and transdermal delivery of various drugs. Clinical and preclinical research has explored its potential in treating atherosclerosis, inflammation, and dermal conditions.
