Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor Subcutaneous (Human) 15% is a plasma-derived biologic therapy developed by Grifols Therapeutics LLC for the treatment of alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). It is a high-concentration (15%) formulation of alpha1-proteinase inhibitor (AAT), a protective protein that inhibits neutrophil elastase and other proteases to prevent lung tissue destruction. Unlike standard intravenous augmentation therapies that require frequent hospital visits, this formulation is designed for subcutaneous administration, potentially allowing for self-administration at home. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in patients with AATD and emphysema.
