Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alphacypermethrin is a highly active, broad-spectrum synthetic Type II pyrethroid insecticide and veterinary ectoparasiticide. It is a stereoisomeric mixture consisting of the two most biologically active cis-isomers of cypermethrin: (1R,cis)-alpha-S and (1S,cis)-alpha-R. Alphacypermethrin acts by binding to voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) in the nerve membranes of target pests, delaying channel closure and causing prolonged sodium influx, which leads to hyperexcitation, paralysis, and death. It is widely used in agriculture, public health (such as on insecticide-treated mosquito nets for malaria vector control), and veterinary medicine to treat and prevent ectoparasitic infestations (including ticks, lice, fleas, and mites) in livestock and companion animals.
