Overview

Alpharona is a recombinant interferon alpha-2b biologic developed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Pharmaclon. Specifically formulated for intranasal administration, it is indicated for the treatment and prevention of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVIs). The drug acts as an agonist at the interferon alpha/beta receptor (IFNAR), triggering the JAK-STAT signaling pathway to induce the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs). This process establishes an antiviral state in the nasal mucosa, inhibiting viral replication and enhancing the innate immune response against respiratory pathogens. Alpharona is available in several dosage strengths and is approved for clinical use in Russia.
