Alpinia officinarum ethanolic extract is derived from the rhizomes of Alpinia officinarum, also known as lesser galangal or galangal, a perennial herb belonging to the Zingiberaceae family. This plant is indigenous to Southeast China and Indochina and has a long history of traditional use in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for treating various ailments, including stomach ache, colds, circulatory issues, and swelling. The extract is rich in bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, proteins, free amino acids, and saponins. It demonstrates a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antiproliferative, enzyme inhibitory, analgesic, antidiabetic, antiulcer, antidiarrheal, antiemetic, and anticoagulant properties. These therapeutic effects are primarily attributed to key constituents like 1'-acetoxychavicol acetate (ACA), galangin, and kaempferol.
