Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alprostadil Liposomes for Injection is a liposomal formulation of alprostadil (prostaglandin E1) being developed by Guangzhou Yipinhong Pharmaceutical for the treatment of atherosclerotic occlusive disease of the lower extremities, also known as arteriosclerosis obliterans. Alprostadil is a naturally occurring prostanoid that acts as a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation. By encapsulating the active ingredient in liposomes, the formulation aims to enhance drug delivery to the microvascular circulatory system, thereby alleviating symptoms such as limb ulcers and resting pain. The drug primarily functions as an agonist of prostanoid receptors, specifically the EP1 receptor, to improve peripheral blood flow.
