Overview
ALS-2158 is a highly potent, pan-genotypic nucleotide analogue developed as an investigational antiviral agent for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It acts as an inhibitor of the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, an enzyme essential for viral replication. Preclinical and early clinical studies indicated that ALS-2158 has a high barrier to resistance and potential for once-daily dosing. The drug was discovered by Alios BioPharma and further developed in collaboration with Vertex Pharmaceuticals, with the aim of creating all-oral combination regimens for HCV therapy[1][3][7].
