Alstonia scholaris leaf alkaloid capsule (also known as CALAS) is an investigational botanical drug developed by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Yunnan Institute of Materia Medica and Xiyuan Hospital, CACMS. It is formulated as an oral capsule containing a defined mixture of total indole alkaloids extracted from the leaves of *Alstonia scholaris* (such as vallesamine, scholaricine, 19-epischolaricine, and picrinine). CALAS is being developed for the treatment of respiratory diseases, including acute bronchitis, post-infectious cough, and asthma. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that the drug possesses anti-inflammatory, antitussive, expectorant, antibacterial, and antiviral properties, and it has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated in Phase I and Phase II clinical trials.
