Overview
ALT-B5 is a long-acting biobetter protein being developed by Alteogen for the treatment of acromegaly. The drug utilizes Alteogen's proprietary NexP platform, a half-life extension technology that involves the fusion of a target protein with a specific peptide sequence to improve stability and reduce the frequency of administration. ALT-B5 is designed to target the growth hormone receptor (GHR). In the context of acromegaly, which is characterized by the overproduction of growth hormone (GH) and subsequent elevation of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), ALT-B5 is intended to act as a GHR antagonist. By blocking the binding of endogenous growth hormone to its receptor, the drug aims to normalize IGF-1 levels and alleviate the clinical symptoms associated with the disease.
