Overview

ALT-L9 is a biosimilar of aflibercept (originator brand name Eylea), developed by Alteogen and its subsidiary Altos Biologics. It is a recombinant fusion protein designed to inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) and placental growth factor (PIGF), thereby suppressing neovascularization and reducing vascular permeability in the eye. The drug is intended for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD). ALT-L9 has demonstrated therapeutic equivalence to Eylea in phase 3 clinical trials involving over 400 participants across 12 countries. The formulation features improved thermal stability compared to the originator, potentially offering a longer shelf life[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][9][10].
