Altay Therapeutics is developing a small molecule STAT3 inhibitor for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases. STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) is a transcription factor that, when activated, promotes immune dysregulation, fibrosis, and oncogenesis. Altay's inhibitor is designed to bind directly to the activated form of STAT3, demonstrating nanomolar potency while maintaining high selectivity to avoid inhibiting the closely related STAT1 protein. This selectivity is intended to minimize off-target effects and toxicity. The program is currently in preclinical development, with potential applications in systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD), ovarian cancer, and various fibrotic and autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis.
