Alteplase + tirofiban is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Alteplase is a recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) that promotes fibrinolysis by converting plasminogen to plasmin, which subsequently dissolves fibrin-rich clots. Tirofiban is a small-molecule, non-peptide antagonist of the platelet glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa receptor, which inhibits platelet aggregation by preventing the binding of fibrinogen and von Willebrand factor to platelets.
