Overview

The combination of alteplase (recombinant tissue plasminogen activator or rt-PA) and conbercept represents a therapeutic approach used primarily for treating submacular hemorrhage (SMH). This combination therapy involves pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with subretinal injection of low-dose alteplase and intravitreal injection of conbercept. Alteplase functions as a thrombolytic agent, working by cleaving plasminogen to form plasmin, an enzyme that degrades fibrin clots, thereby helping to dissolve the blood clot. Conbercept is an anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) agent. The combination therapy shows promise in enhancing both vision and anatomical structure in submacular hemorrhage treatment.
