Aluminium clofibrate is a salt of clofibric acid and belongs to the class of phenoxyacetic acid derivatives, specifically fibrates. It acts as a hypolipidemic agent by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), which regulates lipid metabolism. This activation increases the activity of lipoprotein lipase, leading to enhanced breakdown of triglycerides, reduced triglyceride levels, and increased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels. Aluminium clofibrate was developed as an antihyperlipidemic agent for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood but has been discontinued due to adverse effects associated with its use[1][3][4][5][6].
