Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Antasida DOEN is a generic fixed-dose combination antacid widely utilized in Indonesia, where "DOEN" signifies its inclusion in the National Essential Medicines List (*Daftar Obat Esensial Nasional*). The formulation typically consists of aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, which work synergistically to neutralize gastric hydrochloric acid. This chemical neutralization increases the pH of the stomach, thereby reducing the corrosive effects of acid on the gastrointestinal lining and providing relief from symptoms associated with gastritis, peptic ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux. The combination is specifically designed to balance the gastrointestinal side effects of its components, as aluminum salts tend to cause constipation while magnesium salts have a laxative effect.
