Overview
Epicogel is an oral antacid and antiflatulent suspension developed and manufactured by the Egyptian International Pharmaceutical Industries Company (EIPICO). It is a combination medication composed of aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. The aluminum and magnesium hydroxides act as nonsystemic antacids that neutralize gastric hydrochloric acid, increasing the pH of the stomach contents to relieve symptoms of hyperacidity, such as heartburn and acid indigestion. Simethicone, an antifoaming agent, works by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, allowing them to coalesce and be more easily expelled, thereby relieving bloating and flatulence. Epicogel is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of conditions associated with gastric hyperacidity, including gastritis, peptic ulcers, hiatal hernia, and dyspepsia.
