Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Magsim is an oral antacid and antiflatulent suspension developed and manufactured by Universal Corporation. It contains a combination of aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone. The aluminum and magnesium hydroxides act as nonsystemic antacids that neutralize hydrochloric acid in the stomach, forming water and soluble salts, thereby increasing gastric pH and relieving symptoms of acid reflux and peptic ulcers. Simethicone, a silicone polymer, acts as an anti-foaming agent by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, facilitating their coalescence and expulsion to alleviate bloating and flatulence. Magsim is indicated for the symptomatic relief of hyperacidity associated with gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and hiatal hernia.
