Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aluminum sulfate is an inorganic salt with the chemical formula Al₂(SO₄)₃. It is a white crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water and widely used as a coagulating agent in water purification and wastewater treatment. Medically, it acts as a topical astringent and hemostatic agent to treat minor bleeding from cuts or abrasions by causing protein precipitation and vasoconstriction at the site of application. It also has antibacterial properties and can be found in some deodorants. In pharmaceutical preparations (such as Domeboro), it may be combined with calcium acetate for use as a topical solution to relieve skin irritation or inflammation. Aluminum sulfate can also function as an adjuvant in vaccines by adsorbing antigens and facilitating their slow release from the injection site[1][4][6][7].
