Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alutard Avanz is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by ALK-Abelló for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma. It consists of standardized allergen extracts (such as grass pollen, tree pollen, or house dust mite) adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide (alum) as an adjuvant. The alum adsorption provides a depot effect, allowing for a slow release of allergens and reducing the risk of systemic reactions while enhancing the immune response. Alutard Avanz is part of the SQ-standardized product family and is specifically formulated for a short up-dosing schedule. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of immune tolerance by shifting the immune system's response from a Th2-mediated allergic profile to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) profile, typically resulting in increased levels of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies and decreased IgE-mediated sensitivity.
