Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alutard Avanz SQ is a subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) product line developed by ALK-Abelló. It consists of specific allergen extracts (e.g., pollens, house dust mites, or venoms) that are adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to form a depot, facilitating a slow and prolonged release of the allergen after injection. The Avanz (or AVANZ) designation refers to a specific accelerated up-dosing protocol (often a cluster or rush schedule) designed to reach the maintenance dose more rapidly than traditional Alutard SQ schedules. The therapy aims to induce long-term immunological tolerance by shifting the patient's immune response from a Th2-dominated allergic state to a Th1/Treg-dominated state. This is biochemically characterized by an increase in allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies, a reduction in allergen-specific IgE activity, and the modulation of T-cell and B-cell responses to the specific allergen. It is indicated for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and allergic asthma.
