Alutard Phleum pratense is a standardized allergen extract derived from the pollen of Timothy grass (Phleum pratense). It is formulated as a depot preparation adsorbed to aluminium hydroxide and administered by subcutaneous injection for allergen-specific immunotherapy (SCIT) in patients with IgE-mediated allergy to Timothy grass pollen. The primary indication is the treatment of moderate to severe seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (hay fever), with or without conjunctivitis. The mechanism of action involves desensitizing the immune system to the specific allergen by modulating immune responses—specifically inhibiting recruitment of T-lymphocytes and eosinophils, shifting cytokine production from Th2 to Th1 profile, increasing IL-10 synthesis leading to T-cell anergy, and reducing histamine release from basophils. This results in reduced allergic symptoms upon exposure to Timothy grass pollen[2][5][9]. Alutard Phleum pratense has been shown in clinical trials to reduce symptoms and medication use in patients with severe hay fever[9].
