Alutard SQ Dog

Alutard SQ Dog is an allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) product developed by ALK-Abelló, often in collaboration with research institutions like the Karolinska Institutet for standardization and clinical validation. It is indicated for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma in patients with a clinically significant allergy to dog dander. The product consists of a standardized extract of allergens from the dog (*Canis familiaris*), which is adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to create a depot effect, allowing for the slow release of allergens following subcutaneous injection. The mechanism of action involves the induction of immunological tolerance by shifting the patient's immune response from a Th2-dominated (allergic) profile to a Th1/T-regulatory profile. This process increases the production of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies, induces regulatory T cells, and reduces the activation and degranulation of mast cells and basophils upon subsequent exposure to dog allergens.
