Alutard SQ Felis domesticus is a standardized allergen extract derived from the hair and dander of the domestic cat (*Felis domesticus*), specifically formulated for allergen immunotherapy (AIT). Developed by ALK-Abelló, it utilizes the Standardized Quality (SQ) system to ensure potency and consistency of the major allergen, Fel d 1. The product consists of allergens adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide, which serves as an adjuvant to create a depot effect, facilitating the slow release of the allergen and reducing the risk of systemic allergic reactions. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of immune tolerance, shifting the immune response from a Th2-mediated allergic phenotype (associated with IgE production) to a Th1/Treg-mediated response (characterized by the production of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies and the suppression of mast cell and basophil activation). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of patients with IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma triggered by cat allergens. While traditionally administered via subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT), it is also being investigated for intralymphatic immunotherapy (ILIT) to potentially improve safety and reduce treatment duration.
