Overview

ALVAC-hB7.1 is a therapeutic cancer vaccine platform that utilizes a recombinant, non-replicating canarypox virus (ALVAC) engineered to express the human B7.1 (CD80) costimulatory molecule[2][3][8]. The vaccine is designed to enhance antitumor immune responses by increasing the expression of costimulatory signals on autologous tumor cells, thereby promoting T-cell activation and cytotoxicity against cancer cells[8]. In clinical settings, tumor cells harvested from patients are infected with ALVAC-hB7.1 ex vivo and then re-administered as an autologous cell-based vaccine[8]. This approach has been investigated primarily in ovarian cancer and melanoma, aiming to boost host immunity against tumors by improving antigen presentation and T-cell priming through CD80-mediated costimulation[2][6][8].
