ALVAC-HIV vCP1452 is a recombinant canarypox-based (ALVAC) viral vector vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine utilizes a modified, replication-incompetent canarypox virus to express several HIV-1 antigens, including the envelope gp120 (MN strain) fused to the transmembrane portion of gp41 (LAI strain), the full-length Gag protein (LAI strain), and specific protease and CTL epitope sequences from the Pol and Nef regions. Additionally, the vector incorporates vaccinia virus-derived E3L and K3L genes to enhance protein expression and prevent host-cell apoptosis, thereby improving immunogenicity. Primarily designed to elicit or boost CD8+ T-cell responses, vCP1452 has been evaluated in Phase I and II clinical trials as a standalone agent and as part of prime-boost strategies involving protein subunits like AIDSVAX B/E.
