Overview

Alvircept sudotox is a recombinant fusion protein that combines the first 178 amino acids of the extracellular domain of human CD4 with a truncated form of *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* exotoxin A (PE40). It was developed as an investigational antiviral agent targeting HIV infections. The drug acts by binding to the HIV envelope glycoprotein gp120 via its CD4 domain, thereby delivering the cytotoxic exotoxin specifically to HIV-infected cells expressing gp120, leading to cell death. Alvircept sudotox was studied in clinical trials for HIV infection but development has been discontinued[1][3][5][7].
