Overview
Alwextin is a topical cream containing 3% allantoin, an active ingredient investigated for its potential in treating Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Allantoin is a natural compound known for its wound healing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. It is believed to work by forming a protective barrier on the skin, which helps to retain moisture and shield against irritants, while also promoting the growth of new skin cells to facilitate healing. A pilot clinical study sponsored by Northwestern University evaluated the safety and tolerability of Alwextin cream in patients with EB.
