ALZ-201 is a murine monoclonal antibody of the IgG type developed by Alzinova. It is highly specific for toxic soluble oligomers of amyloid-beta 1-42 (Aβ42), which are believed to be the main drivers of neurotoxicity in Alzheimer's disease. ALZ-201 does not bind to Aβ monomers, fibrils, plaques, or any forms of amyloid-beta 40 (Aβ40). The antibody was developed and validated using the clinical vaccine candidate ALZ-101 and demonstrates a unique binding profile that may translate into high efficacy and a favorable safety profile compared to other amyloid-targeting immunotherapies. Preclinical studies show that ALZ-201 can neutralize toxic Aβ species from human Alzheimer’s brain extracts without binding plaques[1][5][7].
