Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Alzant is a branded generic pharmaceutical product containing memantine hydrochloride, developed and manufactured by Bilim Pharmaceuticals. It functions as a moderate-affinity, uncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist. The drug is designed to treat moderate to severe dementia associated with Alzheimer's disease by blocking the overstimulation of NMDA receptors by glutamate, which is thought to contribute to the neurodegeneration seen in the condition. By normalizing glutamatergic neurotransmission, Alzant helps to improve cognitive function and daily living activities in patients. It is primarily marketed in Turkey and is available in various tablet strengths.
