ALZN002 is a proprietary, patient-specific active immunotherapy designed as a cell-based vaccine for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. The therapy utilizes autologous dendritic cells (DCs) that are pulsed with a mutant amyloid-beta peptide (E22W). These DCs are derived from each patient's own peripheral blood monocytes via leukapheresis and matured ex vivo using an IL4+ GM-CSF cocktail. Once sensitized with the modified amyloid-beta peptide, the DCs are re-administered to the same patient. The intended mechanism is to activate T-cells and stimulate an immune response that leads to production of anti-amyloid antibodies, which neutralize circulating beta-amyloids and promote clearance of brain amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer’s pathology. This approach aims to restore or enhance the patient's natural immune surveillance against beta-amyloid accumulation while minimizing adverse immune reactions by avoiding adjuvants[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
