Overview

AM1030 is a small molecule drug developed by AnaMar AB that acts as a selective antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT2B receptor. It is being investigated primarily for its anti-inflammatory properties, particularly in skin diseases such as atopic dermatitis. By blocking the 5-HT2B receptor, which is implicated in inflammatory and pruritic responses in the skin, AM1030 reduces both T cell-dependent and T cell-independent inflammatory responses. Its mechanism appears to involve indirect modulation of immune cells like monocytes and macrophages rather than direct effects on T cells, due to low or absent expression of the target receptor on T cell populations. The drug has been formulated for topical administration (as a cream) and has completed Phase 1/2 clinical trials assessing safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in patients with atopic dermatitis[1][2][3][4][6].
